The Issues

Education

I am a Wilderness Counselor for Eckerd Youth Alternatives.  In this role I work with a small group of at-risk youth offenders and troubled students on learning new coping mechanisms for success in today's society.

From this background I would bring a good understanding of what our educational system is lacking and what we might do to improve this system.

We are already spending enough money on education (roughly 50% of our State budget), but we are not properly allocating this money to our most important resources, teachers.

Teaching should pay as well as any other crucial profession in our state.  In this vein, I would do all that I could to improve working conditions for our teachers.

Healthcare

The best idea I have heard in a long time:  Make privately funded issurance premiums non-taxable or tax-deductible.

In this manner, the private citizen is given a better chance to obtain personal health insurance.

2nd Ammendment Rights

I am a strong supporter of the second amendment right to keep and bear arms.

I have been a firearms owner and target shooter most of my life and I enjoy shooting sports very much.

Abortion

I do not support abortion.

I do support the right of a woman to choose what she does with her body.

As such, I support keeping abortion legal.

Further...

I would be glad to answer any questions if you have them.  My job is a live-in 24 hour a day, 5 day a week responsibility, so I am not able to respond immediately.  Rest assured, your questions will be answered.

Thank you for your time and your support,

Robert Parker
